It’s a dreary day but we decide to risk it and head to Mt. Rushmore 30 miles away, the closer we get the worse the weather gets and on arrival, there is dense fog completely hiding it, so we head back to Rapid City with a quick stop for lunch at a tourist shop selling nice expensive chainsaw carvings.

On the way back we decide to go to the South Dakota Air & Space Museum entrance is free and it’s raining so this should occupy the rest of the day. This turned out to be a great idea as the museum was excellent with lots of info on the Space race and MAD, a couple of aircraft cockpits you could sit in as well as a detailed exhibit on the Minuteman missile sites Command & Control Center. There were also 30 static aircraft on display outside but the weather didn’t make this very enjoyable but still a great way to spend a rainy day.
