Went to bed early last night and woke up at 4am, way too early, fortunately we managed to go back to sleep till 7.

Once up, we went looking for something to eat and settled on a couple of pastries from seven eleven.

Then it was out the door and on to Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, a massive building complex just a block away from our hotel.

While waiting in line to take the elevator up to the observation deck, we chatted with a nice couple from France. It helped pass the time in the long, but well worth it, lineup. The views of the city were amazing, buildings everywhere you looked, as far as your eyes could see.

From there, we spent the rest of the day on a walking tour we downloaded with 8 stops. Our first stop was Omoide Yokocho (Piss Alley) a quaint area containing over 60 bars and restaurants. We also visit Golden Gai, with more narrow alleys and tiny eateries.

Then we were off to find the Godzilla head, as well as the robot restaurant and Samurai museum both unfortunately no longer exist.

Then onto Hanazono-Jinja, a Shinto shrine dedicated to god Inari for fertility and worldly success.

We had planned on having lunch at the Isetan department store, but it turned out to be a high end grocery store, not the food court we were expecting, so  another meal from a convenience store.  It is impolite to eat while walking in Japan, so we head over to Shinjuku-gyoen garden for a picnic. There is a charge for the main garden, but benches  around the outside for a rest.

We plan on heading back to the observation tower after dinner with another early night as we are still a little jet-lagged.
