Off down south to the Atherton Tablelands. Another windy road takes us through pastureland’s.

Today we actually see about 6 platypus! They are smaller than we thought – just over 12 inches and are actually not so nocturnal as I always believed. We learn that they spend 14 hours a day feeding so are out and about  in the day although they are shy.  We are thrilled to get some decent photos in the town of Yungaburra.

We visit some nearby waterfalls and also see a giant curtain fig tree. The fig tree seed started growing about 20 meter up on a host tree sending a massive root system down and into the ground.  Eventually the host tree died leaving this massive tree and root system in the forest.

Off to Alice Springs early tomorrow morning.
