Cape Tribulation
Picked up our rental car at the airport last night. It is a 2016 Altima, but they have put the steering wheel on the wrong side…
We were late picking it up since our lift out to the airport was an hour late. Made it back to our hotel with out any problems, but driving on the left side of the road just feels wrong.
Left for Cape Tribulation, which is about 140k from our hotel. The drive went fine, despite all the traffic circles and very narrow roads. We pass through fields of sugar cane and past pristine beaches to arrive at our very quaint bungalow, which has no running water but a very comfy bed. At least there is electricity! There are shared bathrooms and a communal kitchen. There are not many campers here as this is the low season for tourists in Cape Tribulation.
On our way up we made a few stops. The first one was Mossman Gorge, a fast-moving river tumbling over massive rounded boulders. Other stops are at boardwalks hiking through the Daintree Rainforest. The forest reminds us of the Amazon – similar trees and vines. We also hike through a mangrove swamp. Too bad we seem to have lost our mosquito spray! Luckily we don’t see any crocs…
