A fantastic day trip to Cu Chi tunnels near Ho Chi Minh with a couple of brief stops on the way. Our first stop was to a factory run by villagers affected by agent orange,

followed by a brief stop at the rubber trees one of Vietnam chief exports.

The Vietnamese people used the 250 km of tunnels in this area for up to 26 years to fight. Above ground the jungle was defoliated by Agent Orange and then burned by napalm forcing them underground.

Entrances to the tunnels were very well camouflaged and tiny – difficult for us larger Westerners to fit in although some in the group crawled through on their bellies through insects and bats.

We waited to go through the tunnels that had been widened for us tourists. It was still a very tight fit with us having to crawl in places, but there were no bats in these ones.

The highlight for Guy was shooting 10 bullets from an AK47. To quote “It was awesome, hell of a kick, incredibly loud and the barrel was hot as hell.”
