Wed 19 Dec – Mekong River to Pakbeng
Lazy day cruising the peaceful countryside watching local village life along the Mekong River in Laos.
People fishing, boating, floating market. We learn that in the Vietnam war, the US conducted the equivalent of 1 bomb run every 8 minutes for 9 years! The country is still recovering and is very poor. Unexploded landmines are still being collected routinely..
We stop at very tiny village of 50 families – very small bamboo huts and a few water spouts. Electricity only arrived last year. We feel privileged to be there and guilty of our lifestyle.
