Mon Dec 24, Vang Vieng, Laos
Took a day trip to visit four caves. The first was well lit with pathways and formations.
One was a water cave where you entered on a tube via rope. We didn’t go in but it was a fabulous wander through the jungle countryside to get there.
The third cave was a challenge – we had head lamps to see the way but it was very slippery inside, humid and stuffy. By the end we were all covered in red mud.
Vang Vieng used to be a place where young tourists would come to party in the jungle – tubing, kayaking and ziplining. Every year lots of people would die so the government has shut this down now and enacted a curfew. The river bank is flanked with the remnants of the many bars along the way. Still lots of young people around, tubing and kayaking without the heavy partying.
