Up early to view the magnificent Angkor Wat at sunrise.
Some cloud cover, but still a superb sight. We are amazed by the number of tourists biking to see the sunrise – no helmets and no lights on the bikes or on the road.
A morning visit to Ta Prohm, the site where Angelina Jolie’s movie Tomb Raider was filmed. This was a Buddhist monastery built to honor the king’s mother in the 12th century and then overgrown by jungle until it was rediscovered in ruins in the 1800s.
It is now undergoing restoration to rebuild the temple, but still maintain the overgrown jungle atmosphere. A fabulous temple – perhaps our favorite?
We plan to view Tomb Raider again for the temple scenery.
Some wild monkeys entertain us as well, but we are careful to keep our distance as they can bite! After a cheap massage, we head to a dinner show featuring Cambodian traditional dance.
