A few more temples and a boat ride along the canals of Bangkok and it is time to board the overnight train to Chiang Mai.

A local man and son share some oranges and longans with us.  The scenery in the morning is dense jungle with bamboo and gorgeous orchids, elephant ears, and bromeliads in bloom. The train is elevated so it is like a trip through the jungle canopy. Chaing Mai is a tenth the size of Bangkok but has even more Buddhist temples to see.  In the evening we drive up the mountain to Doi Suthep temple to see the city at night and listen to the monks chanting.  A magical experience with the golden temple backlit and the night sky.
